Album details

"Know Yourself, Part 1" is the first of a series of releases by Fairview, Texas Songwriter Bruce Nunnally.  Following his "No Spoil Date"  LP and "No Aliases" EP, this 3-song single continues the trend of shorter, more frequent releases.

"Know Yourself" also is a more focused release, more tightly bound.  Each song weaves guitar, songwriter, and audience in a conversation.    From the fingerstyle love story on "You are the Best Thing in My Life" to the bittersweet "Your Love is Gone, Like a Summer Rain", to the tongue-in-cheek 'protest' song "Don't Know What Genre I Am', this 3-song Single brings it all.

Although the "Know Yourself" is planned as a 4-part series of 3-song singles, does one ever truly complete the journey of knowing yourself?

Song Stories

The Best Thing In My Life is You -- I was talking to my Wife one morning, and had the epiphany that all the joy in my life basically revolves around her.  From that thought the song emerged.

Your Love is Gone Like a Summer Rain -- Especially perhaps in Texas, summer rain falls, soon dries, and leaves no sign.  Sometimes love is like that, even if it seems like it would last.

Don't Know What Genre I Am -- For a lot of Independent Artists, (and quite a few established Artists) it is unclear what musical genre they fit in.  This can be frustrating for the Artist.  Part of the problem sometimes is the Artist doesn't have tight branding yet for their music.   This song explores musical genres, and the evolution of music in our lifetimes.

Lyrics - The Best Thing In My Life is You

Happiness is a place you and I can go

Doesn’t depend on others, whether sun, or snow

The best things in my life, the best memories too

The best day in my life   was when I found you

Chorus

The best things in my life, happen because of you

The choices that you make, the little things you do

Over and Over I find,   one thing to be  true

The best thin-n-ng in my  life is you

Verse 2

You and I have faced things we did not know

Things that tried our souls, things that made us grow

After careful study,  I find   one thing to be true

The joys in my life    center around   you

Chorus

The best things in my life, happen because of you

The choices that you make, the little things you do

Over and Over I find,           one thing to be  true

The best thin-n-ng in my     life     is you

Lyrics - Your Love is Gone (Like A Summer Rain)

 Yours are the sweetest eyes

That I've  Fallen into

When I see you  I get blue because

I know your love is  Gone, Like a summer rain

When it gets late and Feelings do Wander to me

Just remember let it be because

I know your love is  Gone, Like a Summer rain

You said you'd love me al- ways If I would be true

Now we're done and I just feel so blue

I know your love is   Gone, Like a Summer rain

Summer rain falls down in and through  each of our lives

Then it all drys  Leaving no reprise

I know your love is    Gone, Like a Summer rain

You were the one I looked for All of my Life

When I saw you Thought you'd be my Wife

I know your love is Gone, Like a Summer rain

Lyrics - Don't Know What Genre I Am

Verse

I like songs that tell a sto-ry

A story should have a twist

I like lots of songs

Don’t care what genre it is

I'm just glad they all exist

Chorus

Don't know what gen-re I am

Don't know what gen-re I'd be

If there were still records

And if there were still record stores,

Don't know where you'd find me

Verse

A good song transcends genre

A good song transcends style

If you hear a good song

Just sing or hum along

You'll cry or smile before too long

Chorus

Verse

Some genres make good sense

Some gen-res do not

If you don't like one

Just Make up your own

That's where we got the ones we've got

Chorus

Verse

There's Indie and Singer/song-writ- er

But those are more about who

and not about the song

so what's and artist to do?

Listen to my songs -- its' up to you.

Chorus

Don't know what gen-re I am

Don't know what gen-re I'd be

If there were still records

And if there were still record stores,

Don't know where you'd find me

But Please find me

Your voice has that Kenny Rogers vibe. I love it so much!

I love how you were so focused when you were playing this song. Aside from that, you have a good voice for this song.

This is too sweet 😊 Definitely made me smile! Amazing work!

Really like this song. While listening I was thinking that there are so many songs about falling in love or boyfriends or girlfriends or breaking up, but there aren't that many that are specifically about being married. So...for all those who are married, let me thank you for adding a song to the mix for us!

Great tune! Fantastic melody- and the lyrics are great too. Don't need much else when you've got that...

this is beautiful ❤️❤️❤️
